Dr. Fick
le is Associate Professor of English at the University of Oregon, and an Affiliated Faculty member in the Department of Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies, the Center for the Study of Women in Society, and the Center for Asian & Pacific Studies. Her first book, “The Race Card: From Gaming Technologies to Model Minorities,” (NYU Press), studies the way that games have both established and resisted against racial stereotypes of Asians and Asian Americans.
This event is held in collaboration with the Asian American Center and the Digital Literacy and Communications Lab’s Critical Gaming Initiative, housed in the Department of English & Comparative Literature. Recently funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the initiative centers humanistic inquiry in the study and teaching of games by cultivating a community of instructors, fostering innovative research, and providing resources, including the Greenlaw Gameroom, UNC’s first game-based classroom.
