Projects
Asian Americans in the South
The UNC Asian American Center aims to be the leading hub and educational provider for academic and community engagement on Asian Americans in the South. We will be rolling out new projects and information here in 2022-23!
Southern Mix
Southern Mix focuses on collecting oral histories from Asian and Asian American residents of the Triangle, of North Carolina, and of the larger region of the South. The Asian American Center, Carolina Asia Center, and the Southern Oral History Program partner to gather these personal biographies. This project will include a wide range of stories of escape, immigration, interethnic and interracial experiences, or even how to cook a grandparent’s favorite meal.
This project was inspired by Asian American alumni, with founding support from the Alumni Committee for Racial and Ethnic Diversity.
Course credit and internships may be available throughout the year. Past students have helped with curated gathering of campus and local history as well as pursuing passion projects about their own communities.
The Southern Mix webpage is under redesign but will be linked here when it is available!
