Eating Disorders in Asians & Asian Americans – A Growing Epidemic

The AAC welcomes Dr. Grace Wu, Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the UNC Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders, Department of Psychiatry on Monday, November 13th at 12:30pm in Greenlaw 223 to present Eating Disorders in Asians & Asian Americans – A Growing Epidemic.
This talk offers an introduction to eating disorders, the prevalence of eating disorders across Asia, and studies that focus on eating disorders in Asians who live in Taiwan and in the US. Participants will gain an entry-level understanding of eating disorders. Special emphasis will be placed on the impact of weight stigma, body image issues, and the rising trends of eating disorders in Asia. Practical action steps and valuable resources will also be provided for individuals concerned about themselves or others who may be experiencing an eating disorder.

Dr. Grace Wu short bio:
Dr. Wu received her PhD from the UNC School of Nursing in 2018 and completed comprehensive postdoctoral training in eating disorders at the UNC Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders. Dr. Grace Wu is a distinguished scientist whose groundbreaking research in biobehavioral sciences and community research has significantly advanced our understanding of obesity, disordered eating behaviors, cardiovascular diseases, and mental health in diverse populations.
