APAHM: Far East, Deep South Screening

April 12, 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Join us for the screening of Far East, Deep South. The documentary provides a window into a community few even know exists — Chinese immigrants in the Deep South — and reveals how the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 impacted the Chiu family for generations. The family also learns about the symbiotic relationship between the Southern Black and Chinese communities during the Jim Crow era. Following the screening, filmmakers Larissa Lam and Baldwin Chiu will join us via Zoom for a discussion.
Thank you to the The Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History for co-sponsoring this event!
