Asian American Center Director Dr. Heide Kim on Last Night’s Event
Dear community,
Knowing how important clear information is in difficult times, I’m writing to confirm the rumors you may have heard that an AAC virtual event last night was Zoombombed. However, rather than giving their hate another platform by describing it, I want to tell you how moving it was to see our community rally on the call. We persevered through ejecting the malicious users (we apologize if any legitimate attendees accidentally got ejected or shut out) and recreated a supportive space centered on community dialogue. Students, staff, and faculty shared their experiences and offered each other help. This will always be a key part of the AAC’s mission. This is why we are here, and no attacks will stand in our way. We hope to see all of you at our upcoming events and reaffirm the Asian American Center’s work on this campus.
